How to use Q-Bond adhesive and reinforcing powders
How you use Q-Bond depends on whether or not you’re using the liquid on its own, or if you’re also using the reinforcing powder.
1: Prepare the surface for the repair
Make sure the surface is clean and dry. Remove any paint, grease, oil, and dust from the surface as it will prevent the bond from forming with the surface.
If using the powder, roughen the surface a little with sandpaper.
2: First, fix any repair with the liquid on its own
Before using the powder, it’s recommended to fix any repair with the liquid first.
If this is the first time you’re opening the liquid, you will need to puncture the top of the tube with one of the included pins.
Apply a small amount of liquid and hold the repair together for 30 seconds, just like you would with regular superglue. Once the liquid has hardened, you’re ready to use the powder to reinforce the repair.
3: Apply the powder around the repair and saturate it with liquid
After the initial repairs are dry, apply the reinforcing powder around the repair site.
Saturate the powder with the liquid until there is no dry powder visible.
After 10 seconds, the powder and the liquid will have formed a completely solid material, which can be sanded, painted, and finished as desired.
If you are reinforcing a large area, you will need to do this step in layers to ensure there is no powder left dry at the end.
4: Leave the piece to fully cure for 24 hours before use
While the bond will be solid in only 10 seconds, the glue will continue to harden for a period of up to 24 hours, depending on the humidity and temperature of your working environment.
Especially if you’re repairing an auto or something that will take a lot of stress like an office chair or some garden furniture – it’s important to leave the repair to fully cure for 24 hours before you put any stress on the joint.
5: Store the glue in a cool, dry place for future use.
The powder can be stored alongside the glue in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and any moisture sources.
If you run out of liquid (or if it dries up in the bottle!) you can use any other superglue with the Q-Bond liquid and it will work just as well.
