How to use Sugru (instructions)
Sugru is extremely easy to use, a child could figure it out!
1: Prepare the surface you are going to bond
Make sure the surface is clean and dry. Any dust or oil will prevent the Sugru from sticking to the surface.
2: Open the Sugru packet
Use scissors to open the Sugru. Only open as much as you need, because once it’s open you only have 30 minutes to work with it before it starts to harden.
3: Shape the Sugru and put it in the desired position
Once Sugru is open, you have about 30 minutes to shape it and stick it to a surface before it starts to solidify.
This step will depend on what you are using it for.
Shape it with your fingers (or with a tool) into the shape you need, and press it to your surface.
3: Apply a texture if desired
For a smooth finish: Wet your finger with soapy water and smooth out the surface. Fingerprints show up very easily on Sugru and can make things look a bit “homemade”. Sometimes that’s what you want, sometimes it isn’t!
You can also use various household tools to add a texture to the Sugru before it dries. If you are having trouble adding the texture without sticking to the Sugru, use some soapy water.
4: Leave Sugru to cure for 24 hours
Sugru will start to solidify in about 30 minutes, however, you have to leave it for 24 hours for it to fully cure, and to form a strong bond.
Don’t put any pressure on the Sugru until then, to ensure it has a chance to bond properly.
5: Be careful how you store your unused Sugru
According to the manufacturer, Sugru has a shelf life of 6 months at room temperature, or one year if refrigerated.
However, several of the customer reviews on Amazon have mentioned that the glue has hardened inside the packet, even when it was sealed.
Check out the reviews for yourself, and don’t buy too much Sugru at once, only as much as you need!

FAQs
Is Sugru Waterproof?
Once cured, Sugru is fully waterproof. It forms a waterproof seal that can withstand extreme heat, extreme cold, UV rays and is also unaffected by seawater, making it perfect for even the most extreme water repairs.
Is SugruPaintable?
It is paintable, however since it doesn’t dry completely hard but instead remains flexible, the paint will easily chip and break off the surface as it moves so it’s not recommended to paint it.
Instead, get some Colored Sugru, and mix the colors until you have the perfect color for your repair.
Is Sugru Heat Resistant?
Yes! Sugru can withstand not only high heat but extreme cold as well.
Sugru can cope with temperatures between -58 °F all the way up to +356 °F (-50°C to +180°C) without melting, freezing, or weakening the bond.
How to remove Sugru
Sugru can be removed with a sharp tool like a crafting knife, and any remainder can be scraped off with your fingernail or a plastic tool that won’t damage your surface.
If there is any residue that won’t come off readily, you can use a little isopropyl alcohol to weaken the Sugru and wipe it off with a cloth.
Is Sugru dishwasher safe?
Sugru is completely waterproof and heat resistant up to over 350 degrees, so it will be perfectly fine in the dishwasher.
Is Sugru Food-Safe?
Sugru isn’t classed as toxic, but it’s also not considered “food safe”. It’s not edible, and it’s also not safe for pets.
Does Sugru conduct electricity? (Is Sugru conductive?)
Sugru doesn’t conduct electricity, it’s an electrical insulator, making it perfect for sealing electrical cables and wires!
Is Sugru Flammable?
Sugru is not flammable. According to the manufacturer, Sugru does “not readily combust, when exposed to direct flame”.
Sugru Safety Data Sheet (MSDS)
Here are the safety data sheets and the technical datasheet for Sugru, provided directly from the manufacturer.
Does Sugru become Hard?
Sugru never becomes solid like hard plastic. Instead, it becomes a semi-solid silicone rubber. It feels something like the consistency of a bouncy ball, but a bit more stretchy and flexible.
What is Sugru made of?
Sugru is made of 100% Formerol.
You can read more about the chemical properties of Formerol here:
http://www.formerol.com/technical-data.html
Is Sugru Reusable?
Sugru is not reusable once it’s cured. There is no way to make it malleable again, so make sure you only open the amount you need and keep the rest sealed until you need it.
Is Sugru Sandable? (Can it be sanded?)
Sugru can be sanded, however, it will change the texture of the part that has been sanded.
If you want to keep the same texture, once you’ve finished sanding, put a thin layer of fresh Sugru over the sanded area and smooth it down with your fingers.
Where can I buy Bulk Sugru?

Will Sugru dry out?
While Sugru is sealed in the pack, it should last up to a year. There is an expiration date printed on the pack, you should make sure to use the Sugru before this date, otherwise, it may solidify even while it’s inside the packet.
There have been a few reviews of Sugru mentioning the glue hardening in the pack. I recommend you check out the reviews on Amazon and make up your own mind.
