Quick Overview
Amazing Goop has been around for a long while, made by Eclectic Products, the same company behind E6000, Shoe Goo, and a whole array of other adhesives and household products.
Goop is a flexible, silicone-based adhesive. It doesn’t dry hard like CA or PVA glue. Once it’s hardened, it’s still flexible, and completely waterproof, with excellent adhesion and cohesion making it perfect for a wide range of applications that regular glue might struggle with.
It’s especially useful for applications where a degree of flexibility is involved, such as in auto repairs, high-pressure plumbing fixes, shoe repairs, and auto repairs.

Amazing Goop Versions – Which type do you need?
Plumbing Goop, Household Goop, Marine Goop, RV Goop, All-Purpose Goop… which Goop is best for your situation? Here’s the secret…
Most versions of Amazing Goop are just the same Glue in a different container.
Don’t fall for the marketing!
Here are the differences explained, directly from the manufacturer:
Amazing Goop & Craft Goop:
Amazing Goop and Craft Goop are less viscous, meaning they are a little bit more precise, but more prone to running and making a mess.
Wood & Furniture Goop:
Wood & Furniture Goop is thicker than regular Goop so that it can be used for vertical/overhead situations.
Automotive Goop, Household Goop, and Plumbing Goop:
All these Goops are the exact same formula, just in different packaging.
Lawn & Garden Goop, Marine Goop, RV Goop, and Sports & Outdoors Goop:
These Goops are the same as Auto, Household, and Plumbing, but also have added UV resistance, making them better for outdoor situations.

Product Features
Amazing Goop has some unique properties – the flexibility and durability of silicone but with the adhesive properties of glue make it perfect for tough jobs that a regular glue just can’t handle.
The extreme flexibility and resistance to pressure, water, UV, and impact offered by Amazing Goop give it an edge in many situations.
Extreme Flexibility
Amazing Goop remains flexible after it’s cured, it feels like a silicon sealer you might use in your bathroom once it’s dry, but it’s extremely sticky like a regular epoxy or glue.
The flexibility of Amazing Goop makes it useful in lots of situations where a regular glue would crack or split, especially in situations with lots of vibration, movement, or pressure.
It’s perfect for vehicle repairs, shoe repairs, and plumbing repairs.
Waterproof and UV resistant
Once cured, Amazing Goop is completely waterproof, meaning it’s safe to use both indoors or outdoors.
Amazing Goop is also UV resistant, meaning it won’t degrade if it’s used outdoors. (Marine/RV/Outdoors Goop only)
Heat resistance
Amazing Goop has a good level of temperature resistance. While it’s not enough to work in very high temperatures such as ovens or engines, it’s perfectly safe for use in any washer or dryer, and fine to use outdoors in the sun.
The temperature you use it at will affect the initial curing time. (See the FAQ on curing time for more info)

How to use Amazing Goop
Goop is messy! It’s the price you pay for having such a useful product I guess. I recommend you use gloves when working with this stuff, and make sure you have plenty of ventilation because the fumes from it stink and aren’t good to breathe in.
1: Prepare the surface before you use the Goop
Make sure the surface is clean, dry, and free from any dust, and especially make sure the surfaces are free from any oil, as that will completely ruin the bond and you’ll just be left with a mess to clean up.
You can use a little rubbing alcohol to clean a particularly dirty surface.
For the strongest bond, use sandpaper to roughen the surfaces you need to glue. This will increase the surface area and allow for better adhesion.
2: If it’s a new tube, you’ll have to puncture the foil seal
If it’s a new tube of Goop, you’ll have to use the cap to puncture the foil seal in the tube before you can use it.
Take the cap off and use the top side to puncture the foil.
3: Apply Goop to both surfaces and leave to partially cure
Apply the Amazing Goop to both surfaces you want to bond, but don’t stick them together yet.
Goop works by evaporation, so in order for the two surfaces to be sticky, you have to allow a little of the Goop to evaporate before you stick them together.
Leave the Goop on the surfaces for about two minutes, until it becomes tacky.
4: Press the two surfaces together and leave to fully cure
According to the manufacturer, the Goop should be dry in 24 hours, however, depending on the environment of the repair, it may take up to 72 hours before the Goop fully cures.
Goop can withstand extreme temperatures once it’s cured, but while it’s wet the ideal temperature for use is between 50-90 °F. (Between 10-32 °C)
5: Apply some grease to the nozzle to stop it sealing shut for storage
The manufacturer recommends you apply a little petroleum jelly to the thread of the nozzle, to prevent the cap from sealing shut in case any glue managed to get on there. (Highly likely, as this stuff is messy!)
You can also use copper grease or old engine oil.
What Materials does Amazing Goop work on?
Amazing goop works on almost any surface. The manufacturers recommend that it is not used on paper products.
Since Goop is solvent-based, it’s not a good idea to use it on expensive finishes as it may mark the surface if you need to remove it, and it’s not a good idea to use it on thin plastic like Styrofoam, because it will just melt.
Here’s a table of materials Amazing Goop works well on, and some that it doesn’t work well on:
Goop works on:
- Stone
- PVC Plastics (like plumbing pipes)
- Vinyl
- Ceramic
- Polystyrene
- Porcelain
- Glass
- Leather
- Brick
- Metal
Goop doesn’t work on:
- LDPE / HDPE Plastics
- Polypropylene / PTFE Plastics
- Styrofoam (it will melt)

FAQs
Amazing Goop Ingredients:
Amazing Goop has two ingredients, Tetrachloroethylene and Styrene Butadiene Copolymer.
Does Amazing Goop conduct electricity?
Amazing Goop does not conduct electricity, it is an electrical insulator.
If you need an electrically conductive glue, check out my guide to conductive adhesives.
How to remove Amazing Goop?
Amazing Goop is quite messy, if you’ve spilled some it’s easy to remove if you have the right tools.
There are a few household solvents that work well to remove the Goop: Acetone, Tolulene, and Naptha.
Acetone is the easiest to get a hold of, and it will remove Goop which hasn’t hardened fully yet. If you’ve spilled a little during application, this will clean it up no problem. You can use common nail polish remover which is usually 95% Acetone for this.
Tolulene is used in industrial settings, in paint thinners, and in household solvents.
If you get Amazing Goop on your clothes, you should use Naptha to remove it, to avoid damaging your clothing. Naptha is a common solvent used in wood and metal shops and found in many paint thinners and strippers as well as in lots of cleaning products.
Can I buy it in bulk?
There aren’t any large container options, however, you can pick up multiple tubes on Amazon and save some money on shipping.
If multiple tubes aren’t enough for you, consider if this is really the best adhesive for your situation. You might be better with a two-part epoxy or rubber cement.
Amazing Goop Dry Time:
Amazing Goop takes around two minutes to become tacky, forty-five minutes to form a strong bond, and between 24 and 72 hours to fully cure, depending on the environment and the volume of adhesive used.
Is Amazing Goop Paintable?
Amazing Goop is not paintable. It won’t absorb any paint, stain, or varnish.
What’s the difference between Amazing Goop and Shoe Goo?
Shoe Goo is another product created by Eclectic Products (The same company behind E6000 and Amazing Goop).
According to the manufacturer, Shoe Goo contains more rubber particles, making it more flexible than regular Amazing Goop and therefore better for use in shoes.
That being said, I’ve used Automotive Goop on shoes before and it works just fine, the difference is barely noticeable. Check the prices on Amazon to see which is the cheapest and go with that!

Amazing Goop vs JB Weld
Amazing Goop is a silicone-based adhesive sealer. JB Weld is a steel-reinforced metal epoxy.
Which one works for you will depend on the use case. JB Weld works better for metal to metal applications, except where the two parts need to be able to move or flex independently.
Goop works best for any other material other than metal.
